This Centre of Excellence (CoE) represents the consolidation of a network of multidisciplinary EU centres and brings together academics from different disciplines across four Asia-Pacific countries in order to maximise their expertise for a wider audience.

The Centre at Fudan in China is led by Professor Dai Bingran, Jean Monnet Chair of Economics. The CoE's Japanese partner is Keio University where both Professors Tanaka and Shoji hold Jean Monnet Chair in Law; in New Zealand Professor Holland of the National Centre for Research on Europe is a Jean Monnet Chair ad personam in Political Science. Professor Pascaline Winand of the Australian Centre at Monash has expertise in the History of European Integration. Thus the CoE provides comprehensive coverage of the main disciplines involved in EU studies, something that no single centre can do independently.

Whilst this CoE is primarliy academic in nature, it also serves to promote the study of the EU within the wider communities of this regional network. A regional CoE will highlight the importance for the Asia Pacific region for interaction with the EU and acts as a focus for regional commentary.
